52 Week 23

IT was a quick read for me,,, nothing really grabbed me.. Ok Black Adam added someone to the Marvel family..
Nothing to loose sleep over,, but then again, it could be just me…

Ultimate Power #1

Ok I know it’s only a first issue…. But damn it, I expected the whole thing to be about both teams, SP only show up on the last page…. So I guess it’s done its job, because I have to buy the 2nd issue to see what’s going on.
Art I dig, and Bendis is writing, so , let’s hope it doesn’t get too crazy..

Green Arrow # 67

Oliver is crazy, point blank… And I love it!!!
The way he is training, the way he wants to get inside the mind of the oppentant,, good stuff. I like that Judd is bringing in the HIV issue with this comic, that superhero’s still have to deal with real problems in this world, that there readers might be going thru.

Seven: Gluttony

A take on the 7 movie… We learn the full story of each sin… The first one is Gluttony, you see him being feed to his death and it ends right where the movie takes over…If you are a fan of the movie you`ll be a fan of this comic…

Night wing # 125

Cool intro issue to this new arc.
Dick is still trying to fit in, in this large city that is New York. We see him looking for a job, meeting some people in his building. He’s trying to find a balance between crime fighting and life. He has been hunting down this new “villain” rapture, seems like he has been killing people, burning them alive it seems. It seems….. Later we find out that it’s some kind of virus and the man rapture is trying to find the people before they die to see if there is a cure, or else he himself will die.
Issue didn’t really grabbed me, except at the end, where someone who sneaked into his room says, you were suppose to die in the crisis.. For some reason I don’t remember that. What I do remember is that Dido of DC was saying that Night wing was on the list for a character they would kill off , he thought night wing was DONE character and we didn’t need another Batman type of person.,.. So let’s see where this turns out to be .
Old school writing, I was wondering why it read like an old comic, Marv Wolfman wrote it,, the guy who wrote crisis…the original and best..

Outsiders # 41

Just wait till the $%*^ hit the fan…
Ok we see that Dr.Silvana is behind this current arc, of using Meta DNA.
Ok let me get str8 to the “wow” factor of this issue. The kiss.. Between Grace and Thunder…Wow they kiss… It just makes me think wtf…. I have mixed emotions about it.. One it’s great to see that comics have turned to a more understanding of the world we live in. The other side is, was it done just to show shock value and to bring “talk” to the comic? Maybe, but it was Judd Winick who is writing it. We know his long crusade of fighting aids awareness and things like that. So I don’t think it was for shock value, god I hope not…
(Hey junkie, I think DC is writing comics the way I use too LOL, inside joke people)

Ghost Rider # 3

Good read,, all around good issue…
I like where this going, has a good story going, different plot points are building. Good story telling, with good art to boot..

52 week 22

The supernova character is the mosting interesting thing for me in this issue. Who is the man behind the mask, Luthor thinks its Superman. It can’t be right? He lost his powers during the crisis, and he only regained them during OYL, like the 5th issue in. So it’s a mystery to me. A one I m dying to find out. But anything goes in DC, who knows it could be superman,….

The Cross Bronx # 2

I LOVE THIS BOOK……
I LOVE IT….

Great art, great writing. I love reading cop solving cases. Him figuring out the case, which is turns out to be a not so normal case after all.
One of the best parts for me is that it takes place in the Bronx, my home town, and a lot of the places where the scenes happen are in my area. One panel is my local pizza shop and tire garage which is right up the block from me. WOW. I was like I know that place. So knowing the locations and seeing the events unfold are great for me.
The supernatural twist this story is taking is great, has a very eerie undertone to it. I’m not really sure what to expect from this, as far as the supernatural parts. The old lady scares the hell out of me…
I think the art helps this story out a lot, it’s very frank miller… I know this is the guy’s style and he has drawn in this style before, but it fits this story. I’m already want to see the movie lol..
If you haven’t picked this series up, do it,, it’s awesome….

Omac # 4

Brother eye is rebuilding….
The last omac….. Is a druggie… The omac cannot come alive till he gets his fix, reason being when the oringal nano virus entered his body he was high, and the nano virus made a picture of his current state, so when he is not on his high, the omac cannot form… it thinks he’s a different person.. A lil weird, but ok I’ll buy it…I` buy that for a dollar!!!...
So the story is pushing along, batman made a small appearance, I wonder if he is going to tie in more to this story arc, since he is the creator of brother eye. I hope he does..

Captain America # 22

Ok civil war is touching capt America… So far so good…
The love story between Agent 13 and Capt, is good, it’s healthy for the story, gives the book weight. It makes her choose, and choosing is tough for her. One end she has her duties to her country, at the other end, she has the man that she can finally say I love you too… And has her questioning everything… She pours her soul out to what she thinks is a SHEILD psychologist… When it turns out to be Doctor Faustus ..
Don’t know much about the character, but the name sounds familiar, I looked it up on wiki,,, seems like based on a real person, and has many interpretations of him.. Thru out the written world..

Jeff Loeb

Hearing a podcast today, from Fan Boy Radio, great radio show that they release also as a podcast. I have to say I have to admire the guy. Good writer, good philosophy for comics.
Someone asked him, how they should read comics, and the answer he gave is the way I read comics, which made me feel great. He sometimes reads as if it was a book, read the narrative and the dialogue, and then goes back to it, and looks at the art. I was like yes!! That’s what I do. I read the story first, get the dialogue down, then I go back and look at the art, and to me makes me feel like I’m watching a movie in awhile. But of course everyone has their own style. Some read in 10 min, some take 3 hours. But I guess if you get what you get from the books, it’s cool.
Overall just seems like a cool guy. A very interesting podcast.
Knowing he is one of the producers and sometimes writer of Smallville, makes me want to check out more, I tried watching in the past, but just got the Gilmore Girls type of episode that kind of turned me off. But I want to follow it this season, thank god for DVR because Lost I think is on the same time slot so.
GET DVR!!!! Or TIVO!!! Same thing…
Also I want start to follow Battle Star Galatica, I’m starting to watch the reruns on G4 of star trek, taking me back to when I use to watch it as a younger person. But battle star seems like something I can get into….

Who knew that Slade’s daughter might be the traitor, come on, like we didn’t see this one coming really. Zatara is jerk, plain in simple. For some reason I remember him being a bit of a bubbler to his powers, I guess he learned how to use them fast. Who is this Martian, a female one.. I have to wiki this. And she looks evil at the end, holy…

Super Girl # 10

Ok, super girl is trying to live a normal life, to see how normal kids live. It was great, till she went back to being super girl. That’s where I went, ehhh. See to me, if they kept this arc up, and really start to deal with things on human level. So what is she telling us? That once its gets a bit tough in school, I’ll just fly away cause im super strong and doesn’t need to deal with this. To me it was a cop out; she should’ve stayed there, dealt with it in normal way. Learn what is to be human.. I think her cousin has..

Robin #154

I’m digging Robin.. He is a small version of the bat.. Good job bats. The kids mind is right, his skills are great. I think he is essential to the bat family, and I just hope they do not mess it up. I like where he is now. Going undercover, seeing what his odds are. Using his mind, more than his might.. Smart kid. On top of that he has to deal with that new hot shot kid hero, dodge. Which seems like his powers is teleporting, and he is becoming a pain to Robin, and ultimately us the reader. But you also have to think about the duality of Robin dealing with a younger person trying to be a hero; much like batman had to deal with Robin when he first started out.

Blue Beetle # 7

Very cool book, I must say. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s nice. Jamie, the new blue beetle, is trying to find out what has happened to him during 52. What happened in that lost year. We also find out that Blue Beetle is not all magical but more tech, of an alien race. But who??? Batman knew this; batman knew he can stop the brother I satellite. Which makes me wonder if batman knows everything? The blue Beetle spoke the language of the Brother I satellite. The creators of the scarab use the same tech.Hmmmmmm.. It’s starting to get very interesting.. Very….

Ultimate Spiderman #100

Ok Bendis, this has to be one of the weirdest issues I’ve read. Holy…
The appearance of carnage, which is Gwen Stacey,,, WTF. I left with more questions than answers, and for some reason, I don’t think that’s a good thing right now.
OK this is what I understand so far. Peter’s dad, Richard, is a sciencetist and is messing with DNA to try to create cures for people, i.e. for cancer etc… He is fails to follow the money to bigger and better things with his work, and decides not to go on a plane so he can sign some papers that would make him a lot of money. Plane blows up. He finds out later that it was meant for him. His wife dies, Pete’s mom. The CIA contacts him, and wants him to finish his research, under their protection and his is not to have any connections to peter, no one must know he is alive. Blah, blah, the Gwen Stacey clone escapes and finds peter, and his father is forced to get him and confront Peter.. Peter freaks out, Aunt May freaks out (and seems to have a heart attack) Gwen freaks out and turns into carnage.. I’m serious this really happens, I was like HUH????? I’m so freaking confused it’s not funny..The arc is not finished, so let’s see…. Damn Bendis….

52- Week 21

Ok must be weird issue week. 52, what can I say, I locked in to buy 52 issues. It’s hard, because some issues just don’t do it for me. Like this one, where there are really just some glimpses to people lives, and really doesn’t answer anything, fully, for me. One of the biggest things we learn is that, Luthor is using the power to change regular people to Meta’s, so he can do a reality show. And he has the power to shut it off when he wants too. What does this have to do with regular DC? To me this only affects the Irons family if you think about it. I don’t see what real impact can this affect people. I thought Luthors thing was bad, but for some reason this issues made it such a non thing, and such a local thing.
Is supernova connected with Luthor? That’s what I’m wondering..
Ahh 52,, sigh,,, how many more we have to go??

Batman #657

Ok batman has a son, and he is a brat. The whole thing is weird. I don’t know how long can this last, the son just doesn’t fit, and I expected a different story for the kid. He is out of control; he killed someone already, a kid, killed…. Batman loses his cool with him, and robin is trying his best to befriend his new brother..
I’m glad I’m reading DectiveComics, where batman is somewhat normal there, solving crimes, being the great dective that he is… That boy is dangerous

Justice League of America # 2

Another HUH? Issue. The league is still forming, for some reason I thought they were picked out already. I don’t understand Black Lighting story line, with parasite… And I guess red tornado made a costume?? How did he get the skin tight mask on..?The kind of cool part was at the end with the red tornados coming after the “jla”. I do like the training of Roy for the JLA, he seems like he’s going to be an important character..

The trails of Shazam! # 2

Have to say it, I think Judd is a good writer, I don’t think the best I read, but nevertheless a good writer that doesn’t disappoint. It all makes sense, since the Shazam wizard is dead, and Billy Batson has been living in the rock of magic, that he would become the new shazam wizard. Also have the look of the new shazam wizard. Which means a new Captain Marvel must be chosen, very cool,, it’s Freddy and now he gets to say SHazam.
One thing I don’t get is why does Capt. Marvel Jr need a guide, why now? I know now he is the only Capt. Marvel, but he has been having powers as Jr. Why is he seeing an Oracle of sorts? To learn how to use the powers? But he was Marvel Jr., you would think that’s training enough, I guess not. Either way, this is an issue arc, I will be keeping up with. My only wish is that it wasn’t 12 issues, yikes.

The Flash-#4

Did anyone notice that Val looks like a Hispanic or black woman on the cover… Weird, I remember when the first flash cover came out; I thought the new flash would have been black according to the skin tone of the person on the cover.
The griffin is found out that his powers are changing, or should I say changing him. Bart is having hard time in dealing with his new powers. He is the speed force, weird huh…
I’m enjoying this run of flash; I never followed the previous runs only thru JLA.. But I enjoy this series…Has some heart, action, a nice story… I plan to follow this series for awhile..
Anyone know what was that park that Jay and Bart were in when they were talking about the Griffin, seemed like Flash Hall, with a grave yard for previous flash’s,, Never saw something like that..
Looking forward to the next issue, where Bart will return to the public eye as flash and the return of an old family foe.

Civil War-#4

The giant is dead. Wow……
I knew there was something fishy on that Thor that appeared. All of a sudden a controled Thor?? This is where things change. Only 3 issues left. Spiderman is already questioning his thoughts on civil war, and I don’t blame him. A creation of Starks and Reed has killed one of their own. I believe they have crossed the line, and this will ring forever in the Marvel U.
So who’s side I’m on?? Tough, killing Foster is pushing me towards CAP’s side.
A "nice" for me was Cloak and Dagger in action, not much action, but something. I was a big fan of cloak and dagger in my youth. Can’t remember why but…. It could be that they weren’t a big famous set of characters, and had to deal with problems of not being accepted. But seeing them again brought me back to my youth of when I use to read their series.. I named my female pit bull Dagger..

52-Week 20

The most interesting part of these issues has to be Super Nova in the bat cave. Already that tells us a clue on who is this new super hero.
He must have a Batman connection, how did he get into the bat cave? Knowing Bat’s there must be security up the yang in there, not even lint can get inside without some kind of security clearance.
Overall a nice read, not to exciting. The lobo stuff was cool, looking forward to see how that turns out.

52-Week 19

Another Booster Gold??? That’s what I thought.. But what this issue has brought me was a solid story line… I mean it didn’t solve anything, It was an issues made to make me get the next one.

Also the biggest thing that I thought that came out of this issue, was the meeting of Wonder Girl with Supernova,, she expected him to recognize her… at first I was like ok…. Then when he flew away, she called him Kon-El….KON-EL???? That’s Conner!!! That s Superboy!!!.....
Already I have a bag of mixed emotions…. People don’t stay dead in DC, Green Arrow, Superman, Jason Todd… I really hope it is not Conner… That defeats the whole purpose of having someone dead.. It is suppose to change things..
As much as I miss Conner, (you miss him??) Yes I do, Why?? The duality aspect of it, he is a clone, of Lex Luthor and Superman… That has to mess with your head, knowing that you are from both.. I loved when Conner went mad, because you know it was going to happen down the line… He was very interesting character, along with nightwing,, the thought of having to live the shadow of greatness appeals to me.
So far 52 has been winning me over week after week. Are all the stories great? Nope… but it’s a story that I need to know…
A year without Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman,….

Captain America #21

Ahhh what I waited for, for so long… Cap and Bucky back again… I was never really a fan of Caps, till this Vol came out… and I began reading the Ultimate’s.. So this whole take cap has been really great.
This issue continues the arc of Cap in jolly ol England..Hunting down Bucky, and finally they team up. Cap said it himself, it felt right..
I love the fact that Bucky pulled a Batman at the end, he wasn’t ready to face Steve yet, and he wasn’t ready to comfront the demons. But we know he is coming around, he’s talking to fury… I think it’s a matter of time, and Cap and Bucky will team up again… Cap with a side kick again?? I don’t think he will become a permant side kick, i sees him as a Nightwing, connected but independent…
I have to give props to Brubaker, he’s doing a nice run on Capt..

Martian Manhunter #2

I have to say MM is becoming a fav on my pull list. There are others!!!!!
Now the big mystery is how they came here, and how did they survive from a decaying planet…
Is it me or do I keep hearing the voice of MM from the Justice League cartoon in my head when I read his thoughts lol…
Don’t have much to say, but I like it a lot….

Green Lantern #13

What did I say…. No one stays dead in DC..
Hal, one of the people who came back from the dead, discovers that a lot of the GL he thought he killed while he was parallax were actually being used to power the giant man hunters.. And they been in captive all the while..
Superboy Prime made an appearance, still in his cage of GL power and the red sun.. And I guess he likes to hang out in his birthday suit.
I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see superboy prime, he is bound to escape…. Bound to.. Well I think he will…and I wonder if the Sinestro Corps will have anything to do with that.. He is recruiting; he is building his own army..
